I will always remember the Wiz because of the graffiti children.

I was born during Ed Koch's New York and I left before I was 3. I still remember my mother taking me through some of the worst neighborhoods--broken and ruined and covered in graffiti, at night under amber light. I had no other idea the world was different and I had no problem with it.

Then I saw the Wiz and I remember the graffiti children...and then I noticed a lot of humanoid forms in graffiti. I understand it's just kids painting outlines around each other, but every time I saw one it worried me. Little me wondered: were the graffiti children REAL? That kind of stuff kept me up at night.
