The 1970’s were an incredibly turbulent time. In the wake of the effectiveness of “people power” in the 1960's, folks simply weren’t going to accept the status quo anymore without complaint. They were prone to rebellion against oppressive organizations as their own established systems failed to provide acceptable (let alone fulfilling) lives or engagement for their subjects. The people fought back against their oppressors in myriad ways, both armed and unarmed. The below items listed are only a small sample of the decade’s events:

  • 1970: “Skyjack Sunday” — Palestinian terrorists hijacked 4 planes with 300 hostages total on September 6 of that year. All hostages were released.
  • 1971: The Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI broke into the FBI offices in Media, PA and stole every document they had. They sent the information anonymously to several newspapers, much of it self-incriminating information about the FBI’s COINTELPRO operation violating the 1st Amendment Rights of Americans —especially those of Black students and Black activist groups. That same year the “Pentagon Papers” were released in The New York Times newspaper, with extensive proof that the Lyndon B. Johnson presidency lied to Congress and the American people about the extent of events during the Vietnam War.
  • 1972: The Munich
